Hi Baltimore, I am a SF Yelper who needs help finding a retirement home/rest home for my 86 year old mother in law.  She has macular denigration and is nearly blind, and it is increasingly difficult for her to live in her apartment alone.  To complicate matters, her only income is social security, plus the money that my husband and I give her each month.

I don't even know where to start.  If anyone has ideas, could you please help us?

Thanks.

uh...is she located in Baltimore right now?  The only retirement communities I know of are in areas of MD that are away from urban centers.  They still typically cost a lot - especially with managed care.  Sorry, I don't know what to tell you.

What's your price range for rent, does your mother in law own her home...these questions change the possible answers.

Are you looking for one in Baltimore?  I have a couple of friends whose parents live in retirement/nursing homes in Chestertown, MD but I have no idea what they cost or where you're looking.

Good luck.

She lives in Towson, MD in a low-income apartment complex.   Her monthly income is around $1270.  We'd be looking in Baltimore County area, but are open to other areas.

Thanks for any ideas - appreciate it!
