Neighborhood: Galleria/UptownYelpers! Sorry I haven't written in a while my job moves me around alot. Anyways, I visited Pappas over the weekend and they were packed in crazy. We waited an hr or so, but worth the wait. The crabcakes are to die for and the steak are what their known for.

This is certainly one of the best steaks I have ever had. Dry-aged in-house for 4 to 5 weeks, prime & top choice and cooked to temperature. It was heaven, but you already know all about the steaks, I want to comment on the seafood. My wife is not a big fan of beef so I had to make sure they had some fish for her. They have your typical steakhouse fare, Live Maine Lobster, Rock Lobster Tail and Wild Sockeye Salmon. Pappas did have a fish special which was Halibut broiled and topped with a Lobster Beurre Blanc. This is what she decided to try. The Lobster Beurre Blanc sauce was exceptional, it totally made the plate. They also had a side dish off the menu, mac and cheese with lump crab meat.
Pappas Bros Steakhouse is known for their steaks, but they can pull off some really good seafood.

This is Mason again. I know you don't expect a doxie to write a review of a steakhouse, but I'm a multi-talented little guy. I just wanted to mention that places like this have doggy bags for a reason, and the reason is ME! Ok, I'll share with my sister, Moxie, but that's about it. Anyway, my owner Anthony brought home a silvery package that smelled soooooo good I couldn't keep myself away. Turns out it was some leftover NY Strip with some veggies and taters. I got some slices of steak with my dinner (camping in front of the fridge looking starved sped Anthony up, that lazy sod). Soooo yummy!
Now I heard him talk to a neighbor about the place and I took notes. You say I don't have opposable thumbs and can't hold a pencil? You fool, I have a great memory! How do you think I remember that breffus hits the floor every morning at 6:00AM sharp?? Anyway, here's what he said:
"The place has a great atmosphere, they edge on being pretentious but avoid going over the line. The serveice is near perfect, the waitstaff seems to know exactly when to intrude and when to stay away. The steaks were absolutely mouth-watering melt on your tongue. It was a bit rediculous, the prices - everything was a la carte and I thought I'd have to pay extra for a bowl for the salad. Unlike most Pappa's restaurants, you can actually carry on a conversation when it's busy. This is my number one special occasion spot!"
You know what's cool? Not only did I get to eat steak too, but I licked the foil out AND I found an uneaten atom of steak in Moxie's dish she missed! My day is complete, now for a belly rub and a nap.

The fillet mignon was the second best I have had, ever. It wasn't quite Kansas City but it was fantastic. The vegetables are served family style and our party split some asparagus, green beans, and mashed potatoes.
I didn't have any room left in my stomach but I wanted to order some more.

I remember the soup since it was something unique and something I've never had before. The steak must of been good because I don't have any pictures of it so I must have been impressed with the looks and taste and forgot to take a picture!

I travel a lot to new cities. And in each new city I always make sure to ask my local contacts about the best steak place. And they always think they have the best. Well...my friends in Houston who recommended Pappas Bros got it right. They have the best.
Pappas Bros is the best steak place I have ever been to, and I have been to the best all over the country. Manny's, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, etc... None of them hold a candle to Pappas Bros.
I'm not a wine drinker, but I could see they had a huge selection.
And the restaurant itself is exactly the old school type of place you want to enjoy a steak in.
I rarely get to Houston, but when I do this is always on the list.

THE BEST. Their steaks are dry aged and prime. Best combo to have. Wine list is said to be the largest in Southwest. This place beats Vic and Anthonys, Capital Grille, Mortons, DelFriscos, and Bob's. Just because of the flavor alone! No other place compares to their sides. Usually when i taste the sides from other places they seemed like theyve been ignored. But not at Pappas, their's are tasty. The AuGratin potatoes in particular! Just go and try you will not be disappointed! And finally the service is polished and professional, but not snobby! They make you feel like a King (or Queen).

There really is not a whole lot to add to the reviews below... as advertised it is one of the best steaks in the city. I had the fillet served rare, and it was amazing! If this place wasn't so damn expense I would definitely be here more often. I have nothing negative to say about this place. Go... enjoy... leave happy...

When you first walk into Papas Steakhouse, you are immediately taken back to a time, well, most likely before you were born. The setting for this steakhouse is back in the 1940's and the atmosphere it portrays is phenomenal. I have been to Papas a handful of times here in Houston as well as the Dallas location and each time is more impressive than the last.
Looking for a good wine with dinner? With over 2,300 different vintages here, your sure to find the perfect match to your dinner. If your looking for a hard to find vintage wine, this is your place. Their inventory boast wines dating back to the '60's, 40's and even early 1900's so bring the platinum card.
From appetizer to desert, the food is quite delectable. The filet here is one of the best around; tall and juicy with a pinkish red center and so tender you can quite literally cut it with a fork. A true pity for all of the vegetarians out there.
After dinner drinks can be enjoyed with a cigar from there large walk in humidor.
Another fantastic place to take that special someone or great with friends. You will not be disappointed when you leave, just a little full.

Pappas Brothers is always consistently delicious with exceptional service. I am not a huge steak eater, but I really enjoy the steaks here so much that i always order one. On our last visit, my husband tried the veal chop which was lovely, but not as tasty as my filet.
If you are in a group, I recommend getting the New Zealand lobster tail and having them serve it as an appetizer for the table. The crabcakes are also a great choice as a starter, lots of lump crab and very little filler.
I think I have tried every side item on their menu, I love the au gratin potatoes. Though, I usually try to order the special since it always comes with sides (unlike the steaks, which come out solo). There is usually a steak paired with seafood as a starter.

We went to Pappas with some friends on Valentine's Day. We love Strip House and Fleming's so were interested in trying the restaurant that won Texas Monthly's "best steak in Texas" award.
It was generally agreed by all meat-eaters at the table that it was not a deserved recognition. However, they did think the lamb chops were better and deserved more attention than the rib-eye. As the vegetarian at the table, I just wanted to order a few sides. I was disappointed that practically every vegetable was cooked with beef broth or bacon. I understand that I am somewhat limited in a steak house, but, seriously, I don't see why everything has to be cooked with meat. My only options were asparagus, au gratin potatoes and green beans. The asparagus was boring, but the green beans and potatoes were probably the best I've experienced. The cheesecake was also pretty amazing.
Karla, the sommelier, was terrific and attentive. Our waiter was adequate. I told him I was a vegetarian and asked if the chef could create a pasta dish or something simple off the menu for me. The response was no. OK. That's fine. I proceeded to ask about each of the sides. He did not once think to just tell me what I could actually order or offer suggestions. One by one, I asked about the items to find out if they were completely vegetarian. He just didn't seem interested in being helpful. His service actually bothered my friends more than it bothered me. After another waiter heard their annoyance with the situation, our waiter reappeared to say the kitchen could also make some spinach for me.
I just wasn't overly impressed with Pappas and doubt we will ever go back. There are other and better steak houses. Considering it is no less expensive than its peers, it has/offers little to win over the competition.

The best steak in Texas is found
At Pappas where sirloins abound.
Their strip has no peer.
Don't pity the steer--
Its heavenly taste will astound.
The December 2007 issue of Texas Monthly pronounces it #1 in Texas and I'm not arguing. The Pappas family has made a ton of money at Pappasito's and Pappadeaux, which allows them to lavish all sorts of attention and resources on this jewel in their company's crown. I'll bet they don't make a cent here because the focus is on providing the ultimate culinary experience, not turning a profit.
When you arrive, you can sample some wonderful single malts in the bar while you wait for your table. I recommend eating in the Wine Room. It has a posh yet romantic atmosphere that ought to melt the heart of the lucky object of your affection at your side.
Their wine collection numbers in the thousands and features some "show" bottles that are in the five-figure range. I asked a waiter if anyone actually ever buys one of these and he informed me that it hadn't happened yet. It does make for interesting table conversation. Don't hold back on the wine selection - you need something rich and bold to properly complement the main course (which better be steak, dangnabit!).
My wife favors the small filet mignon; I think the 18 oz New York strip, served rare, is exceptional. Its texture and flavor provoke my taste buds to start doing gymnastics while, at the same time, my salivary glands open their tap wide causing almost uncontrollable droolage. A red meat tete-a-tete at Pappas is really that good!
Their cheesecake is an opulently rich way to end a perfect evening of culinary delight. Your pocketbook will be lightened significantly for this high-end experience. If you choose a moderately priced wine, expect to spend around $200 for a dinner for two. IT'S WORTH IT!

My husbands company had their Christmas dinner here. This was my first visit. Excellent experience. We had reservations for a party of 13; I would make reservations every time. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. I had the filet and lobster. It was excellent- cooked perfectly. We tried all of the appetizers, sides, and desserts, and several of the wine selections. They have an outstanding wine selection.
My favorites- their crab cakes and shiraz! The more wine the merrier!!

Had to try Pappas Bros after it was rated #1 by Texas Monthly magazine and after having many good meals at Pappadeaux. The decor is very traditional, dim lights, dark wood, classic light fixtures. It was early, around 6:30PM, so it was a good time to enjoy a meal here as it got a lot crowded later. For the appetizer, I got the tomato and onion salad, there were only two tomatoes and it was a bit over seasoned. The steak was much much better, I ordered the 18 oz. ribeye medium rare, the flavor was very good, they aged the steak well. Not too salty either. For the sides, nothing special, the wild mushrooms and mashed potatoes were fairly standard. Overall, I'd come here for the steak, which was outstanding.

Wonderful experience! Starting from the delish Pisco Sour to our sweet and cool Creme Brulee-not a bad thing to say! We started at the bar, with only a 20 minute wait. We enjoyed a yummy drink off of their extensive bar list. The piano player sang a few relaxing songs while we waited. We then moved to our table near the kitchen. We chose two great wines off of the list, both Australian. It was very nice to have so many options. We then ordered the fillet, ribeye, skillet potatoes, mushrooms, and a ceasar to start. We gobbled up the warm and crusty sourdough bread while we waited. The ceasar had just enough dressing and came in a timely manner. I only regret that I would have ordered my fillet without the butter, for it was sitting in a puddle of it. The skillet potatoes are my favorite!! The mushrooms are very flavorful as well. With the creme brulee, we had some of the sweet and smooth dessert wines. I do reccomend if you have the budget trying the royal tokaji. It is a chilled white dessert wines, which complements anything with fruit. SOOOOOOO Yummy! Always a treat to go to this amazing place!

This is definitely a place to go for a good steak, its spendy so be prepared to spend a little dough. But if you have a celebration or just taking your significant other out, then i would suggest this place. Definitely not a place to go to hang out with a bunch of friends tho. The atomsphere is real elegant, and upscale

We came here for a work related dinner and had a pre-selected menu. The little room that they set aside for us was perfect--private, but not isolated. They passed some hors d'oeuvres, and the real standout there was the crabcakes. I am still fantasizing about those crabcakes! So much delicious crab packed inside a crunchy golden crust! Then we started off with the shrimp cocktail appetizer. The shrimp were ridiculously huge and flavorful. That appetizer could have been an entree-- it was that big a portion. Then they brought out steak with sides of asparagus and potato casserole. The steak was fantastic--it is my new second favorite steak experience (my favorite still goes to the Del Friscos in Las Vegas). It was well aged, nicely cooked and seasoned. The aspsaragus were not sufficiently trimmed--they left the woody stalks on at the bottom, but the sauce was rich and delicious. The potatoes were sublime. They used a sharp cheese that was sooooo good! We had sorbet in chocolate cups for dessert and that was the perfect final touch--clean and light after so much richness. The flavors of the sorbet were bright and tangy. I loved this dinner--it was the best one I had in Texas.

I had a great surf-n-turf here, but I find that of all the Pappas restaurants, this si the one I crave least when I come to Houston. I tend to hit the Pappasitos and the Pappadeaux first to get my fix of Tex-Mex and etouffe, and if there's still room, I come for a steak. Like Henry, I love the fact that they don't do anything to the steak but care for it while it's aging, and cook it exactly right, and bring it to you hot.

Second time visiting Pappas recently and I was not disappointed. This place is phenomenal! I've had great steaks before but Pappas filet was practically melting in my mouth. They also have amazing dishes OTHER than steak, which many times steak houses cannot deliver on.
We had their amazingly huge spicy crab cakes which were almost all crab and relatively little other filler. Last time we had their lobster bisque with sherry which was such a pleasure on the palate. This time we also tried the beefsteak and tomato salad with bleu cheese, a total win. Their special was a bison filet, which I did not partake in but my dinner cohorts pronounced amazing. I was content to nosh on my tender filet while they devoured the bison filet. Dinner is family style with sides so we shared au gratin potatos, a lobster mac and cheese special (very good) and green beans which were sauteed quite well, however a little too oily for my taste. Desserts shared were peach cobbler and a moonpie...which despite its name actually tasted quite amazing. The peach cobbler seemed so much better last time we visited, but I think the chocolate moonpie was just overshadowing it's more delicate flavor!
Service here is quite quick and efficient and I have to throw in mega rave reviews on their BREAD. I love good bread and theirs is simply flat out wonderful. Pappas has it's own bakery where they make their breads and desserts for all of their restaurants. This particular bread is crusty and crunchy on the outside and super soft and airy on the inside, so that when you grab it to tear...it crushes down and gets all warm and steamy. Slather on the butter and MMMMMM. It comes in a full round loaf style, and I think I may have actually consumed an entire loaf. I am unsure because they kept taking it away and replacing it with a new warm one every time our dishes changed! They practically had to roll me out of here. Bottom line is it's amazing. And I eat a lot of good food. This place is a must try if you are in Houston.

Definitely a great place for a business lunch/dinner. The cigar smoking in the bar is a little too heavy for my taste, but that depends on how you like your co2 to oxygen ratio. With a big group it took a while to get seated but when we did I was blown away by the food that followed. A big hearty salad followed by a mean fillet and washed down with a few bottles of wine. The waiter helped us pick a good red to pair with the fillet and it turned out to be quite the spectacle. The lobster tales across the table seemed to be reaching out for my plate as well. Most likely from radioactive waters.
Good times...

this is the one houston pilgrimage i try and insist on whenever we come into town to visit hulaboy's fam.
good steak is pretty much impossible to find in san francisco so i especially appreciate pappas bros. the steaks are always perfectly prepared (i tend to go with the filet, the boy generally gets the strip), the sides are phenomenal, we always get a lobster tail for the table which is buttery and delicious. and, because i'd be remiss if i didn't mention it, the brown liquor drinks never, ever disappoint.
try and reserve a booth...and yes, the phones actually work!

Wow. I've never had better steak anywhere else. Even their NY Strip was good.. and I hate NY Strip. If you do go, get the Filet Mignon Rare. Its so damn good that you'll never go elsewhere again for steak. They age all of the steaks and do some steak magic to it b/c when it comes to you they haven't put any special sauce on it or butter or anything.. the flavor of the meat really stands out.
The bread they bring out is also quite heavenly.. its crispy on the outside and super soft and hot on the inside. I ate so much of it I was almost full by the time the steak came!

this is a small chain of restaurants so you can find them in Houston Dallas and maybe a few other cities. while the pappa brothers have a number of very successful restaurant chains this one seems to fall short of the mark. being from texas i consider the art of cooking red meat to be one of the most sacred of skills one can hope to acquire. unfortunately while the papa bros may live in texas i don't think they were born here. they also don't seem to be able to do justice to a tenderloin. my very expensive lobster tail was also overcooked. to sum things up....pricey food that didn't deliver. the ambiance and service were acceptable though.
