Note: I have only used the self serve baths.
Buddy loves Point Isabel because he is allowed to get as dirty as he wants here...go ahead and jump in the water and then roll around in dirt and mud till you look like swamp thing BECAUSE Mudpuppy's will get you clean before you get the in the car to go home!
Could the location BE any better? NO!
Could the employees BE any nicer? No...they even help lure your dog into the tub! (this is truly important when you have a 100lb lab who likes to throw his weight around)
On to the bath facilities (I have a big dog so I am talking about the big dog tubs/facilities)...
1 the tubs are raised (and they have stairs for the dogs) so you are not bending over (I am 5'5 so maybe if you are taller you will have to bend),
2 the tubs also have a short leash to keep the dogs in the tub which is not necessary if your dog likes baths
3 the tubs are nice and deep so you can really keep control of the water and dog
4 they have rubber aprons just in case your dog likes to shake a million times while being bathed and therefore you don't leave looking like you had a bath
5 the tub areas are equipped with shampoos (which have been diluted for quick lathering) and brushes and hooks for all your stuff
6 the floor around the tub have those honeycomb rubber mats so you don't fall on your tush
7 they give your dog a treat when you pay and they have a frequent washer card
8 i have never gotten a dirty tub (no mud or hair residue which is surprising due to its location)
Its a small location so sometimes there is a wait but it is next to a dog park so its not like there isn't anything to do plus there is a coffee shop next door and this place also sells dog toys and accessories (there is a lot to do and the wait is usually not too long or at least it seems that way). Also on the weekends, parking can be difficult - its a popular place for dogs so don't go there expecting to find a mega parking lot and then act like a jerk because someone is having a hard time getting their dog in the car. That's not nice and nobody wants that.
I think I covered some (but not all, not even close) of the numerous reason why this place deserves five stars and more :)

Mudpuppy's begins and ends my favorite Saturday mornings. We show up at 8am, in time to grab a morning coffee and bagel from the cafe as it opens, and begin our circuit around Point Isabel. Our 8-month-old puppy tries to persuade every dog she encounters to chase her, or wrestle, or chew on her neck. While we enjoy the cool ocean breezes and beautiful bay views, she frolics in the mud. Then it's back to Mudpuppy's for a drop-in, self-serve bath appointment for $11. I never expected to carry a frequent dog bath stamp card in my wallet, but what can you do? Facilities are clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything you could want for grooming and bathing.
Staff has always been friendly and helpful, even when our pup manages to infiltrate the cafe kitchen, i.e. the ONE PLACE in the whole area she's not allowed to be.
Not much to write here. I think Jane A. summed it up quite nicely. Mudpuppy is conveniently located at Point Isabel. Your pooch can get as dirty as he/she wants, then get cleaned up before heading home. Now that's sweet! The staff is friendly and helpful. They used to sell doggie ice cream. Not sure if they still do but my beloved pooch, Caesar, used to love it.

It was pretty ridiculously cute- picture this: me, my boyfriend and our dog all hanging out at Point Isabel enjoying the cooling breeze, sitting at a picnic table all enjoying a refreshingly cool beverage and the dog got to enjoy a Frosty Paws "ice cream sundae".
Cute, huh?
It would be if it happened, oh but it didn't. My dog's first trip to Point Isabel was so embarrassing because he acted so naughty! He barked, nipped, lunged, growled and snarled at any dog that came near him. What a little shit! Normally he is so well-behaved at dog parks, but this time at Point Isabel, he was so rude that we couldn't stay and he didn't get an ice cream.
From what I can tell, SIt and Stay Cafe is an excellent idea. The menu is extensive and the area is really clean. I got an iced herbal tea and my boyfriend got a strawberry-banana smoothie. Both were nice and came in compostable corn/plastic cups-- AWESOME!
Next time, when the dog is more mature, we'll have to order a bite to eat to sit and stay awhile.

Sergio, Grigio and Baci just love the staff at Mudpuppy's Tub & Scrub and the Sit and Stay Cafe, where they can interact/socialize with other dogs and their owners. They are friendly, understanding, professional and they have a great sense of humour.
Grigio likes to say this about his mother: "The Mother gets her hair done by Lionel, I get my done by Claudio." The staff is so understanding and cool when any of the three show trepidation about getting into the tub and getting a bath from any of the Mudpuppy's staff. My favorite part of their bath is seeing them wrapped in their towels as if they were dressed for a toga party. They do love the treat at the end of the bath.
When we arrive at Pt. Isabel, the first place Baci must do is go window shopping at Mudpuppy's as well as saying hello to the staff. She just loves one of the owners, Eddie. Eddie always says hello to her and she loves the attention he gives her. Baci is still waiting for a large sized pink bowl water bottle. We are both still waiting on that, the small one will not do. We do love looking at all the accessories and necessities for our four-legged members of the family.
The Sit and Stay Cafe is really nice too as well as they live green. They use recycled cups, etc. as well as free-trade coffee and other items. It is nice to just sit, stay and relax before or after the walk.
So, yesterday on the drive home Nina and I were talking about the dearth of restaurants around Costco. She doesn't like eating in their food court. I told her about the Sit and Stay Cafe, which I know about via the Point Isabel Dog Owners' newsletter, although I'd never been there. We agreed we have to check it out. Today I'm at Costco, just about finished w/ my shopping, and there's Nina, starting hers. It's about 12:30 and neither of us has eaten. I suggested Sit and Stay, so she decided to have lunch and do her shopping later so her purchases wouldn't have to sit in the car.
We drove over to Point Isabel and there's the cafe on the eastern edge of the parking lot. They have several picnic tables and lots of dogs coming and going and running around. She had a turkey sandwich and I had salami and provolone. You can specify kind of bread, there are several choices of meat and a couple of cheeses, which vegetables you want (lettuce, tomato, red onion) and for mayo or horseradish you can specify light, medium or heavy. That is cool. Other condiments are serve yourself. They have a bunch of other offerings besides sandwiches, plus a variety of hot and cold beverages. The picnic tables are covered w/ cloths which are firmly anchored and there are umbrellas for shade. There's water several places for the dogs. Facing west you have a wonderful view of the Bay. Facing east, not so much--the USPS (or Costco) truck area. East has more dogs playing, though, so that's good. There's a very faint aroma of poop in the air coming from the grass to the east. Though people are encouraged to clean up after their dogs, not all do. The sandwiches were good. It's not a destination restaurant, but if you're at Point Isabel w/ your dog or at Costco and don't want what they offer it's a great option.

This review is for the Sit & Stay Cafe.
My husband and I try to head to Point Isabel dog park at least several times a month because it's such a nice coastal walk for both us and our little furry one. I was always intrigued by this place since it's right in the park but I've never stopped by to actually check it out. This was the first time I stopped by, and I have to say that I was very pleased. I really enjoyed my bagel sandwich as well as the whole experience of sitting outside on a sunny patio enjoying a nice light brunch and drinking coffee in the sunshine with happy dogs all around.

My dog and I LOVE this place. The Park, The Cafe, The Grooming services are all good. I get my dogs nails cut there and it is reasonable and they do a great job.
The park has areas for swimming and running through the grass and even picnic tables if you wanted to bring something to eat or buy something at the Sit & Stay Cafe.
And you can't beat the view of the City!
What's better than getting someone else to wash your muddy dog after a long walk at the park?
Having a cup of coffee while you wait! I love the Sit and Stay Cafe -- the staff are always super polite and friendly, and, can you believe it? EFFICIENT! Yes, they can make your sandwich, brew your latte and give you change while you're still looking for your credit card. Or your dog.

The folks running Mudpuppy's are so kind and genuine, just got to love them. They especially enjoy Halloween and dress the store up so wildly, it's a destination just to check out the decorations.
You can choose to have them wash your dog for you (at a VERY reasonable price) or you can wash your dog yourself for even less moulah.
They carry all kinds of dog collars and leashs and such. They seem to make a real effort to stock products by local manufacturers, which I appreciate. The $35 back-seat protector I bought here (dirtypets.com is the brand) has lasted twice as long as the $75 one I got from Orvis and has much handier snaps to attach it to the headrests.
I say, take your dog here for a primo bath and TIP BIG!

Mudpuppies!! Four paws up!!
Toys! SQUEAKY TOYS! Seasonal squeaky toys with replacable squeakers! Really great collars! Great baths! Really nice people.
Sigh. We all miss Mudpuppies and the nice guys who run it.
Gil really needs a new collar and I can't find a nice leather collar in Texas. Go figure.

REVIEW IS FOR SIT & STAY CAFE ...
This place is super cool and cute. Lots of friendly dog owners and dogs. How can you not love it? Caffeine, dogs, sun and weekend.
Your dogs get to smell each other, run off lease, dive into the water (if so inclined) and you get an extensive menu of caffeinated beverages. Starbucks - you ain't got nothin' on Sit & Stay, they have mochas in all sorts of delicous flavors!!
I'm going to start making visits here on the weekends part of my routine. I just have to remember to finish my coffee before bringing it back into the car ... today I didn't, and I found a puddle of drool on the lid :(

oh my, this place was hard to find, but when i finally found it (it was through word of mouth) me and chica were glad we did!
It is half a cafe, and half a pet grooming place and half a doggy store (too many halves huh?)....well let me tell ya,
Chica and I, after spending a wonderful afternoon at the doggy park that is right next to this place, we went over and did a walk-in apt, 15min and a latte later we went in for the wash...
Chica was a little scared at first but the groomer was so sweet and nice to her that she was okay...she got washed really good, and we were going to do nail clippings, but they advice me to come another time since Chica was getting a little nervous.....which i understand, i don't want her to freak out the next time she comes.....
but anyways, yes, they were so sweet and really caring, i will be back again :)
- ps: $16 for a small dog, $21 for medium and a little more for a large doggy....nail clippings were about $5bucks....

This was Miss Pearl's favorite spot, the cherry on the top of the Point Isabel sundae, enjoyed without fail at the conclusion of long walks along the shoreline. In her final years [Miss Pearl passed away in November 2004 and is likely chasing balls in green pastures for the rest of eternity], she would often lobby for foregoing the walks, insisting we head directly to Mudpuppy's. site of fabulous dog treats and the most dog-friendly environment ever.
Eddie and his staff are the best.

It's almost impossible to drag my dog in here but once he's washed he's so happy. These guys really care about the dogs and remember there names (never your name, just the dogs). I've been going there since it was a trailer and now with the bigger space it's better than ever.

I don't have a dog but I have friends who have taken their fur pals
to Mudpuppy's for a bath (The staff can do it or you can).
Nice stainless steel tubs at a comfortable level.
Wonderful selection of dog toys, leashes, collars and dog cookies
and snacks.
SIT & STAY CAFE is located in the same bldg as Mudpuppy's.
They have a wide selection of hot and cold drinks for the
super buzz lovers (espresso, lattes, etc) and for us wusses --hot cocoa and herbal teas.
And LOADS of yummy pastries! And ice cream, soups (including a veggie selection) and sandwiches and more!
And their website:
mudpuppys.com
has lots of info including TIDE TABLES for your water loving pooches!

During my review of Point Isabel, it became clear that Mudpuppy's needed its own review. It's actually two businesses -- "Sit and Stay Cafe" and "Tub & Scrub," and both are fantastic.
The basset, Cooper, went here every weekend for a wash while they were still in a trailer a couple of years ago. I did a couple of self washes, which was fine, but oh man, his "boyfriend" (who is actually co-owner, I believe - the bald guy whose name is escaping me) does a much better job. He LOVED Cooper so much that he'd specifically time it so that he could wash him, and then - get this - he'd carry the 60-pounder to the back of my car! Plus, he's the only person that has successfully clipped Cooper's toenails without turning it into a torturous, crying ordeal (that list includes his vet).
I'm too broke to get Cooper washed there anymore, but as soon as I have an extra $20 to spare, he's so going back.
About the new cafe: it's cute, has okay coffee, really good chili. But the best part about it is, of course, the location -- you can sit and eat and watch your dog play, with a view of the Golden Gate to your left... it's borderline orgasmic.

I would like to report less than courteous service by owner Daniel Bergerac. I was told that all appts. were taken but that I could wait for a walk in appt. After waiting for 45 min., I went in to inquire if my dog would be getting seen soon.
Mr. Bergerac, who was already acting like he had had one cup of coffee too many, raised his voice and said to "please wait outside and stop giving me dirty looks". I told him in a calm manner I was not giving him dirty looks but just inquiring as to when my dog would be seen. He yelled more aggressively and said "I DOOOONT KNOWWWW. WE'LL GET TO HIM WHEN WE GET TO HIMMMMM." I found all this perplexing and strange. Maybe someone needs obedience training classes or one of those zapper collars.
Mudpuppy's offers both full-service as well as self-service baths. We tried the self-service option today and found it very convenient to give our 75 lbs dog a bath. Everything is provided- towels, shampoo, brushes, aprons,... so you just need to show up there with your dog. The tub is at a decent height, with stairs leading up for your dog. There are two hooks for to tether your dog, so you can turn him around.
The staff were helpful and friendly, even when I asked several questions as it was our first time there. Price is very reasonable but add-ons such as conditioners, nail trim or blow-drying can quickly add up, so be aware. However, all prices are clearly disclosed at the front of the store. I would definitely go back to Mudpuppy's again, especially since it is so conveniently located right by Point Isabel!
