Love this place! Best service in town. The staff waits on you hand and foot. They even wash your hands for you at dinner. Food is fabulous! Great vegetarian fare. The lunch buffet is a great and generous sampling of the wonderful dishes that they offer. I always choose to be taken there for my birthday!
Okay. I'm that type of person that never complain there is too much food.
But Korma Sutra definitely don't skim on the dishes. I think I found at least 10 shrimps in my shrimp tiki masala!!!
The dish is good, I think the shrimp is a little overdone, but it's not bad. The garlic naan is excellent.
The minus one star are for the following picky reasons:
- dishes come with rice only...and not naan...it will be nice if they come with both :)
- I asked for take out-but they didn't give me any utensils...thank god I asked before I left...or else I will be eating with my hands (maybe that's the proper way to eat :)

It took me about a week to decide how I felt about this place. The food was good, but the service was a little indifferent.
First the food. I really enjoyed the Vegetable Pakoras, some of the best I've ever had. I was tempted to order them, and then convinced when one of the servers brought us a free sample. Nice! The Cheese Nan was also superb, nice and spicy, not too oily. The Papadums were pretty standard, and the sauce accompaniment was good. My entree of Korma Sutra Korma (Vegetable Korma) was just ok. Good, but definitely not up there with the best ever korma. The Frozen Mango, Rice Pudding and Chai that were part of our complimentary desert were all delicious and unexpected.
As for the service, we had a hard time figuring out how to go about getting a table. The cash register and desk is in the back of the restaurant, and nobody greeted us at the door, so it was a little bit awkward to get a table. That having been said at 7 pm on a Friday in Westport there was no wait, in fact when we left at 8 the place was only half full. I don't think the staff spoke much English, and that was why they were rather scant on communication. The friend that I ate with was a bit offended by the service, but our food came quickly and we were well attended to, our water glasses were kept full and the complimentary food was a nice touch.
The atmosphere was a bit funky, some mediocre paintings on the walls and some interesting textiles, lots of bright colors. Nothing offensive, a very open feel to the restaurant.
I would definitely return to Korma Sutra, the food was good and at a fair price, but it's not anything that out of the ordinary.

If you're looking for good north Indian cuisine, Korma Sutra is the place to be in town for both lunch and dinner.
If you've never had Indian food, the lunch buffet is a good place to get your feet wet, with samplings of some of their best dishes and appetizers: samosas, pakoras, chicken tikka masala, veggie korma, etc. The meal comes with naan and mango lassi. The drawback? With a constant refilling of naan and lassi, you might be full quickly if you don't moderate yourself.
I however, prefer the extravagant dinner experience. The first time I visited, I was amazed at the pampering I received, both in complimentary food and stellar service. The meal starts out with a delicious pakora appetizer, followed up by pappadams served with four types of dipping sauces (mango chutney is a personal favorite).
The meals are served with mango lassi and a generous helping of basmati rice. Though the main course bowls may appear smallish, I always leave extremely full or with a take-out box. If you ask for hot, be prepared. Korma does not skimp on the spices like many other restaurants do.
Finally, for dessert: a soothing rice pudding with galub jamin, and a refreshing, delicious cup of chai tea, as well as a mouthful of mango ice cream. All the while, you are provided with attentive and courteous service. The meal ends with hand-washing, which normally confuses my first-time guests - an added bonus for me.
In my eyes, you're not only getting a great meal at Korma -- you're getting a unique experience!
Some of the best Indian food is here. We have been coming here since it has opened and are never disappointed. My wife and son love it too. Many of our friends have eaten here as well. The best thing is to try the Sunday or lunch buffets. You came sample all you want, there is good breads and you get the orange mango lassi drink and chai with the meal. Plus the service is very good and attentive ( the owner major server is a real hoot! and so funny). The samosas are really good (usually potato and peas). The goat curry is very good as is everything else. There is also vegetarian or you can order off the menu. The rice, and other dishes are excellent. One time instead of the menu, we got a special of little oblong meatball called kifta and it was succulent and had good char. There are bunch of condiments to try, sweet desserts and more, They are very courteous and helpful if you have questions and new to this place. Try it. You will not be sorry.
This is the best Indian place in town, no question. It is also one of the best bargains! When I was there, they brought out a mango & yogurt smoothie that was wonderful. Make sure you get an order of the veggie pakora. My favorite dish was butter chicken... now that I am vegetarian, I love the veggie korma. This stuff is addictive!
Absolutely delicious food and friendly service. Loads of free tidbits and extras -- though undoubtedly figured in rather than gratis -- and some of the best lassi I've had. It's in a great location, too.
I've been to 4 different Indian restaurants in the KC area, so I am not a connoisseur, but have some idea of what is out there. Korma is definitely the best. The only warning is that they have 5 courses and treat you well, so if you are in a hurry, try this place another time, you'll be there an hour if you rush.
The food and service are great! The menu is huge, you can find pretty much anything you want, even if you aren't that adventurous. Sometimes the naan is burnt pretty good, but that is the worst they've ever done to the food. My favorite is the tandoori (sp?) chicken. Its pretty americanized, but they glaze chicken in a jello/yogourt mixture and cook it. It comes out bright red, but all the juice sealed in. It looks interesting and tastes great. All the classic Indian dishes are very good too.
You can't go wrong here.

Wow! A genuinely wonderful and unique Indian restaurant in bustling Westport. There are lots of good ethic choices all in this one block and Kama Sutra compliments the selection well. They did a wonderful job of taking an old funky space with exposed brick and woodwork, and adding even more eclectic Indian motifs and painting touches to craft a unique space. The result is something that makes for a fun and memorable environment.
We were warmly greeted by the owner and quickly seated. An unexpected treat was a complimentary appetizer that was brought to our table shortly after we sat down. What it was exactly I'm not sure, but it was quite delicious none the less. They had a selection of three sauces you could sprinkle on, and unlike other Indian restaurants that I have seen this before; here they appeared to be fresh made and tasted wonderful. Kudos for these small little elements that really stand out.
The menu choices were a bit more ambitious than typical Indian restaurants. Most Indian restaurants generally only have mulligatawny soup, if they have soup at all. In contrast Korma Sutra had four different soups on their menu. We ended up trying the tomato and a coconut soups. The coconut in particular was very unique and tasty. The tomato was a little on the watery side for my tastes. The naan, main dishes and in particular the rice all had quite generous portion sizes and the flavors were top-rate. This place just hit the spot perfect. Definitely a place I would come back to in order to explore different dishes in the future.
The service was very attentive. Water glasses stayed full and empty dishes were quickly whisked away. I can't fault any of the service throughout our meal, because the execution was perfect, but all the servers seemed a bit stone faced especially in contrast to the owner who was quite friendly.

You must go into Korma Sutra at least once in your life. Seriously.
Not only is the food always delicious, but the service is great. This is not just a normal dinner that you go to, it is a complete dining experience. They bring you free crunchy appetizers to try, free warm chai at the end, free rice pudding, and free mango ice cream. You also get a warm finger bath with lemon and lime! I know in the back of my mind that all of this FREE stuff is actually built into the price, but it still makes me feel like I'm getting a bargain. The prices seem totally reasonable and comparable to other Indian restaurants, so I don't feel like this is only a special occasion place.
The dining room in the Westport area is a little small, so expect to wait if it's a busy weekend night. IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT. I am drooling just thinking about it.

I work in the midtown area and have only been here for the lunch buffet - but every time there's a great variety - and it's just really good. Service is good too. It's not a huge place so seating is sometimes an issue - but there's not usually a long wait even at lunch.

I may no longer live in KC and only discovered this mighty fine Indian food joint. I have only been there for dinner The service is great for both take out and dine in. (Yep for take-out they give me a little desert and chai if I wish). The food can be expensive but the portions are large and usually enough for another lunch or dinner for me. The ambiance is alright, but it is the food that keeps me coming back every time I visit Kansas City. Check it out and enjoy some naan for me.

I've only gotten take out so far but the service was wonderful. The people are so nice and accommodating, the food was done quickly and tasted SO GOOD, the portion sizes are great (two of us ate from one order of Chicken Tika Masala) and even for take out orders they give you dessert and Chai Tea. Now I'm not a fan of Chai but this is the most amazing tea I've ever tasted! The decor is great and the window treatments make it private but not closed off. I'll definitely be going back here soon. Enjoy!

What can I say besides WOWZA! I love this place. I have eaten here twice in the past 2 days and it just keeps getting better. The service is great, the food is great, the atmosphere is great and the price is great. I reiterate, wowza.
I went there for dinner tonight with friends after having take-out yesterday and we were treated like royalty. Not only were our meals delicious, but we were treated to a complementary sampling of appetizers and desserts! As always, the Chai was a perfect finish.

Five stars, people? really? It's good Indian food. Not great. Weird atmosphere.
This place continues to amaze me with their food quality and level of service. Their lunch buffet is unbeatable for the variety and quality of their food, plus all of the extras that come along with the price (mango lassi, chai tea, rice pudding, etc). I've yet to have anything off the menu that wasn't excellent, and every person I take there loves the food (even people who I would expect to shy away from Indian food).
And the service is some of the best around. One time I took a group of 8 of us only to find the dining room full. But instead of making us wait for a large table, the manager found a folding table and chairs, fixed it up with a table cloth, and had us eating in minutes.
The only complaint I have is that the dining room is on the small side, and it does fill up.
And the address on the Yelp listing is incorrect. It lists the address for the westport location, but then says that it's in overland park. There are 2 locations: Overland Park, KS and Westport in Kansas City. This review is for the Westport location.
Best Indian food ever had, and guess what, they have lunch buffer for $8. I can guarantee you food is NOTHING like buffet quality. Every dish is still the best it could get. Fresh pita goes to your table, and the buffet includes free mango juice or mango lassi (free refills!) After enjoying all the delicious dishes as you are pretty full, the waiter will bring you some chai (also free!!!!) to go with your dessert like rice pudding. As some people may need some caffeine to get back to work, you can simply tell the waiter to get you a chai to go (of course, free again), sometimes they would even wrap up the pita for you to take home. All that for $8, best Indian food+excellent service. Give it a try and it'll be your one of your favorite places to go back again and again!

Went back to KC to visit, this overland park location is the best place I stopped by for the lunch buffet. Food is as good as I remember, different types of excellent curry and everything is just good.

This is the (apparently) second location of Korma Sutra. The restuarant was beautifully decorated and the wait staff was very friendly. Parking was a bit of an issue since it is located in a dense urban area.
All of the dishes our party had were fantastic, leaving everyone, even the person who'd never had Indian food very pleased. I had the tandoori chicken and loved it, cleaning my (sizzling) plate.
My friends seemed to love the mango lassi and the garlic nann was quite full of garlic!
