Neighborhood: RosedaleAngie was highly recommended to me by other women on my message board, so I decided to check her out. Boy am I glad I did! Not only is she really good at what she does, she's also a lot of fun to talk to and has a great space for her work. It is funny how people say they look forward to seeing her even though she inflicts pain - I totally agree (and the pain is really minimal). The only things to remember when you go to see her are (1) she is very popular, so she's booked up way in advance, although she will call you if she has cancellations (2) to bring cash or check. I am one of those people who never has cash and doesn't carry a checkbook, so I've had a few times where I was late because I had to go get cash. Just remember to bring one of the two and you're all set!
It's hard to get excited about tearing out hair from your body by the roots, right? But I actually look forward to my waxing visits at Blush. No, I'm not a masochist.
Homey space, cool clean interior with mid-century touches and Rockabilly funkiness. Angie provides a comfy, raised bed and fluffy towels to comfort you (no industrial paper covering); it smells nice in here.
Angie has a great technique, applying counter pressure after removing muslin strips. A world of difference for the owie-ness. Time passes quickly with her intelligent and pleasant conversation.
I especially appreciate the quality of the waxes and other products she uses during her sessions; they are truly superior. No stickiness, no noxious smell or greasy sheen from Baby Oil. And she observes excellent hygiene habits at all times.
Angie is really amazing. And I'm *not* just saying that because she told me I had great skin. :)

I have been a nervous nelly about brazillian wax. After reading all the reviews, I gave Angie a call and returned the call in a couple of hours and got me in the same week. The process was amazing, she makes it almost painless (i say almost because, there obviously some pain associated if you are getting your hair pulled out..)...She truly is a pro.
She is very cheerful and the place smells awesome..that's the first thing you will notice when you enter the place.
I highly recommend Blush!
I love getting my skin all cleaned up by an aesthetician. It's like getting your car detailed - only it's your face. It feels so good to have squeeky clean pores and dewy skin if only for awhile.
Angie greeted me in the salon of her cozy, pristine studio. The first thing I noticed was her creamy, beautiful complexion...a good sign when an aesthetician's visage is their own best advertising. Well, that and yelp.
After we talked for awhile about my skin she chose a combination of products from a West Palm Beach line she uses, Image. She used a salicylic acid cleanser from their Clear Cell line to wipe away traces of the gritty city from my face. Then she brushed on an enzyme masque from their Vital C line to sweep off dead skin cells. After that she rubbed in a super hydrating serum, also from the Vital C line. The products felt alternately bubbly, tingly and calming - I loved the way they smelled and Angie's technique is excellent, as is her manner.
Angie is chic, warm and friendly without being chatty...and she seems very knowledgeable about skin and skin care. She made it a point to mention before she started that there was no pressure to make conversation - that it was my time to just relax if that's what I needed to do - and to ask questions if I had any. She answered my questions confidently and didn't try to sell me a thing. She sent me home with six wee samples to try out and see how my skin reacts with them over the next couple of weeks. Nice.
She also gives a great scalp massage and shoulder massage as her masques work their magic under the warm towels and steam. All of this for $75. Seeing Angie could be habit-forming.

I would HIGHLY recommend Angie! I agree with the other reviewers that say if you can find someone that can give you a bikini wax and make you laugh at the same time?!?! Then you have found yourself a total pro. Angie makes the visits comfortable and fun. Not only is she warm, friendly and welcoming...she is quick and as painless as it is going to get for wax services. Angie at Blush is the best!

*sigh* I left Angie's last Wednesday with a little tear in my eye.
See, I'm moving away and that was my last official scheduled appointment with her. I'll try to see if I can schedule time with her when I'm in town, heck, maybe fly in for appointments with her... but it won't be the same as skipping out of work early to go spend time in that little spot o' heaven. *sigh* See you soon Angie! I'll dearly miss you!

Angie is the best.
If you can still smile while getting your hair ripped out at the roots, then you know you've found a gem of a waxer.

I really have no other waxer to compare with, but Angie made the experience 78% less painful. I don't know how this is possible considering your hair is being pulled out at its roots, but this woman does it, and she does it well.
I had an appointment at 3:15 on a Friday, apparently a busy day of the week when it comes to hair removal. From the hype I've heard about Angie (I soo want to call her Angel-a because thats what she is) I got there about 20 minutes early. Sitting down in the small front waiting room, not 30 seconds pass before I hear "Is that Monica?" coming from a back room. Enter Angie. She explains the woman before me canceled (her water broke) so we could get started immediately if I liked. I did.
We step into her spa room, and she steps outside to allow you a bit of privacy to disrobe, offering you a towel to drape yourself if you please. During the process she chats you up just enough to distract you from the ripping sensation in your loins, as if someone tied a string to every hair on your body and pulled it all out at the same time. Except it was 78% less unbearable than that. Bless you, Angie.

My face is a mess. No, really. Just look at it.
Pimples all over, dry lower cheeks, and an oil slick that runs across the forehead, down the nose and along the cheekbones. Not the skin my mom said I'd have at this point in my life. Those pimples, she said, were just a teenage phase. Well, four years out of my teens, I decided the doctors and self-diagnosing just weren't cutting it.
So I made an appointment with Angie for a facial.
Getting in touch with her can be a *little* difficult -- after all, she's a one-woman show -- but she's very prompt about returning messages, and within 24 hours I'd set up an appointment for a week later. On the phone, she asked about any skin conditions I had (hello, acne!) and suggested I start drinking 8 oz. of kombucha a day.
So for the next week, I dutifully drank my scum-and-juice (get it with some ginger or tropical fruit, you'll barely taste the "cultures"), and I noticed an energy-boosting effect shortly. I'll keep it in my diet, for sure.
On the day of my appointment I walked up the flight of stairs (definitely not handicap-accessible!) and sat down in a quiet, heavily scented waiting room with some guy, who turned out to be waiting for his girlfriend to get out of her appointment. Shortly, I was escorted into the room, changed into a velcroed wrap and slipped under the covers on the very comfortable table.
The facial itself was very tailored to my acne-fied needs. Lots of pimple assassination, followed by balancing out the rest of the uneven skin. Aside from the necessary evils -- very tingly stuff briefly on the troubling spots and the "extractions" (uh, she squeeeeeeeezed my pimples in a sanitary and damage-minimizing way) -- it was a soothing, gentle experience. This lady knows how to put you at ease. Head and shoulder massage while masques sat on my face helped pass the time.
The charge is more than I can regularly afford (it was $75), but totally reasonable for the service -- I checked tons of spas in the area, and she's right in the middle and seems to be a lot more thorough, just based on others' descriptions.
Also, she was totally nice and her near-perfect skin (guess her age, I dare you) is a total endorsement for her services. She gave me samples of a ton of stuff she recommends, and if it works well for me, I'd be happy to pay for the it.
(I feel like an utter jerk -- I just realized I forgot to tip (does one tip a one-woman operation?). Next time, I guess.)

Angie is awesome! Just saw her the first time today based on Yelp reviews and was thoroughly impressed. Although I'm technically cheating on Fabiola (Salon 1800, Chicago, IL), I'm not, because we're in separate area codes- isn't that how guys justify cheating?
It's actually a pretty convenient location (although she's sweet to warn you about parking and such, of which there isn't much, but I had no problems, and I went at lunch on a Wednesday). The place itself has a nice ambiance, very homey and comfortable.
And Angie herself...well, she's a doll. One of the nicest people I've ever come across, and fun to chat with. She made the time fly by and my Brazilian feel like nothing at all. Plus, she squeezed in an underarm wax as well!
I HIGHLY recommend her, at the very least for waxing, but judging from the experience I had, I will for sure be back to try out some of her other services.

i want to shout it from the rooftops, "i love my waxing goddess angie!"
she is so good that i come back every month. is it weird to enjoy spending 30 minutes with your waxer as she rips off hair from your nether region?
well if it is weird, than i don't want to be normal.

I would not make a recommendation to get a Brazilian with Angie unless she really was THAT good. :) :)
Her place is clean, easy to get to, and the service is personable and friendly.
The waxing was a breeze - I have had waxes before that made me want to beat the living hell out of the woman for inflicting such an inhumane amount of pain! Angie is friendly and knows what she is doing - it was over before I knew it and she did a wonderful job.
Doesn't double dip her sticks (yay for hygiene!), the bed thingie is super super comfy (I would have fallen asleep had i not been in such a compromising position...) and she uses some kind of miracle wax...seriously.
She also discounts for regulars and I don't see any reason why I won't go back.

I haven't gotten my eyebrows waxed in MONTHS because my previous waxer isn't located close to my work anymore. So I looked on yelp for a close to campus recommendation and found Angie!
To get to her second floor space, you have to go up some kind of scary wooden steps (do not wear stilettos!) but just hold on to the railing because you want to get up there. My eyebrow wax was a reasonable $15 and Angie did a great, thorough job. Plus she's sweet and chatty which always makes the waxing less uncomfortable.
Cash and check only!
Update 5-08 - I've started going to Angie for bikini waxes and she rocks these too! She's fast (so it hurts less), doesn't leave stragglers, and somehow doesn't leave that sticky after-wax feeling on your skin.

I've been to Angie a number of times for bikini waxes, and she really is as great as everyone says. It's a relatively painless wax and surprisingly not awkward (well, as un-awkward as bikini waxes go!) She's super friendly and put me right at ease. She's like a great girlfriend now, and i love seeing her. Just recently i got my first facial from her. After having a pretty awful first facial experience at an upscale Aveda spa, i was a bit hesitant. But my facial with Angie was wonderful. Soothing, relaxing, and not irritating to my sensitive skin at all. I HIGHLY recommend Blush; Angie is the best aesthetician i've seen, and an added bonus is that her prices are very reasonable.

I love Angie, even though I only met her today.
I read amazing reviews about her waxing services on Citysearch and couldn't wait to give her a try (figuratively speaking, of course...waxing sucks). I called yesterday and after playing phone tag for a bit, I was finally able to set up an appointment for today. She was very pleasant sounding and gave me detailed directions to her "office."
Upon entering the building today, I was greeted with a very serene, calming environment. The lights were dim, the temperature was comfy, and there was a relaxing fragrance in the air. I was pretty early, so I perused the magazines...most of which were current! Now that doesn't happen very often! I must say, that Angie "resides" in an office building full of therapists, counselors, an acupuncturist...you get the picture, and there is no secretary person. You just go in and sit down, then she'll come out to greet you when she's ready for you!
Angie is marvelous! I told her that I was kind of nervous (don't worry, I'll spare details) and she explained that it was normal. I felt completely at ease with her, we carried on a conversation the entire time she was working. I must say, that waxing sucks and is really painful, but for some reason it didn't seem quite so bad! A lot less painful than the last time around, that's for sure! I'm not sure if I was distracted by the conversation or if she was JUST THAT GOOD!
It's no wonder that she received "Best Bikini Wax in Austin 2006" by Austin Monthly!
*****EDIT*****
I reviewed the old location downtown. Her new one, in Rosedale, is just as fabulous and it has that added "Angie" touch to it. Yes, you have to scale some pretty scary stairs, but its completely worth the effort. As a small side note, park on the street... don't park in the lot. Just trust me on this.

Needless to say, I was anxious about my first bikini wax! Last year I decided I was fed up with my many years of rather uncomfortable and unsatisfactory shaving experiences and started to look at the waxing options around town. I found Angie's website through citysearch and ads in the Daily Texan, and I was pleased with her low prices ($25 for a bikini wax.)
Despite my nerves on the first visit, I was put at ease by Angie's welcoming character! She is always upbeat and loves to talk with you about what's going on in your life. The room is clean and Angie is very professional, hygienic, etc. . She worked quickly and although some pain is obviously unavoidable, it really wasn't as bad as I was expected. The end result was awesome! I've been going back to Angie ever since and have never felt the need to find a new salon.
DEFINITELY check her out!
